Bare Roots

01Feb13

Today, we went to the nursery to pick up an order of our first fruit trees. It’s our first priority to get them started before our vegetables and herbs. They’re bare root trees which will probably take about 3-4 years to produce. (So, we’ll hurry up and wait 3-4 years.)

We bought 2 apple, 2 peach, 2 pear, 2 raspberry and 2 hazelnut trees. We have an entire area west of the play yard that will be devoted to our orchard. The hazelnuts will probably be planted elsewhere as they can become quite large. The raspberries will be planted next to our blueberries east of our pool.

Eric and Dusty worked hard today to move compost, dig holes and plant all the trees.

  1. Wow that sounds like a great project and I’m sure you will reap the rewards, in 3-4 years of course!
