Bedding Down the Asparagus

23Mar13

Yesterday morning, Eric dug an asparagus bed behind the pool fence. We do not want it to be with the other vegetables as those beds will be tilled in the next season. We have 25 green and 10 purple asparagus. It will take about 2 years to produce a crop. We started with bare roots, spaced them 12″ apart and covered them in 2″ of soil. In the next few weeks, we will gradually cover them with soil until the trench is filled. Growing asapragus is a first for me. I’m excited to see how they do in the next 2 years.
