Gourmet Garlic

October is finally upon us and I am planting garlic! Garlic is one of the easiest things to plant. Eric made me an 8 inch measuring stick for distance all around the planting and 3″ for depth.

I presoaked the garlic cloves in water with 1 tablespoon of baking soda for 2 hours as an antifungal preparation. Garlic will grow healthier and heartier this way.

We planted gourmet garlic and some locally grown garlic from a friend. When it starts to get a little colder, we will cover the plantings with straw to protect them over the winter.

It will be so nice to have some homegrown garlic. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until late July to harvest. However, it will be worth it.

  1. I never presoaked my garlic, but it sounds like a good idea. Thanks!
