Critters du Jour

Around 5:30 this morning I woke to Kona barking. She was responding to Daisy barking in the yard.

As I was coming out of the bedroom to let Kona out, Eric says, “There’s a opossum in the driveway. Come look.”

The opossum was just sitting next to the driveway (playing opossum of course). Goliath was barking at it, but not harassing it too badly. Daisy continued to bark behind the fence. In California, she’d killed a few of them, so we knew not to let her out. Eventually, it left.

I continued to enjoy my morning coffee and read my email. Eric comes in and says, “Grab your camera, put on some shoes and come with me.” As we near the barn, Eric says, “Look at what Goliath is looking at.” As I look up toward the entrance of the barn, I see this large raccoon sitting up inside the rafters.

Eric was excited to see a turkey in the center pasture yesterday.

A month ago Eric spotted a fox living in our pond pasture. We believed they moved because their home was disrupted by the city digging up their habitat.

It seems we’re always spotting some kind of critter in the springtime. This was actually the first time we’ve seen a opossum, raccoon, or turkey on our property.

It’s nice to see you have an animal sanctuary.

    How cool is that.
